FRIDAY JUNE 16 2006 (at last)

(NON) PUPPY STATUS: Disappointing news, both for us and for those on our long waiting list. We've been waiting for Blanche to come into season since the early months of this year, but she has not obliged. She's always been irregular but John has been watching her like a hawk since March when she was due. She has either skipped a cycle, or is just on such a non-standard calendar that it's too late now for 2006. We're past the point where we can plan for a fall litter, when we have a lot of non-beagle commitments on our time. The pups wouldn't be ready for pickup until Halloween even if Blanche was in heat today, and that just doesn't work for us with Penn State football games and other things going on. This is just a hobby for us, and we never have planned our lives around the production of puppies, but only made them available when we had them. We do plan on emailing those people already on the list, but we're sorry to say that not only are we not taking any more names for the foreseeable future, but we're not going to have any puppies this year either. We'll be making some changes on the website to reflect this (we're getting ready to have new windows installed on our house, so things are busier than usual right now), but in the meantime please do not telephone or email us to ask about puppies, because we just don't have any. We won't be answering any new puppy inquiries, now that we have this news posted on the website. Again, our most sincere apologies, but Mother Nature has trumped us for this year.

SATURDAY APRIL 16 2005

Spring 2005 litter at 4 weeks old

HALFWAY TO THEIR NEW OWNERS: Four weeks old, and we're into the way-fun Primo Cuteness period. Personalities are emerging, and now that they're up on their own legs and spending time outside, they're already acting like little beagles. A new slideshow of photos is posted on the Flash Gallery page, including closeups of their little faces. All 6 have black noses!

TUESDAY MARCH 22 2005

PUPPIES PROMISED: It's a complicated game of telephone tag for a few days, when we start going through the list to get commitments for new puppies. But by Monday night (21st) at 10:45pm, the last of the 6 puppies was claimed. We had several postponements by folks who said this was not the right time to get a new dog, but they want to try again next time. We allow this once per person, and that policy is spelled out in more detail on the puppy list portion of our puppy page.

So when the little critters leave us in mid-May, they'll be relocating to: Danville PA, Brewerton NY, Salineville OH, Wysox PA, Prince Frederick MD, and the last staying local to Tyrone (our plans to swap a puppy with a breeder in Oklahoma fell through). Congratulations to our new BEB owners, and please send in your deposit checks ASAP.

If you are on our list but didn't get a call, we're sorry that it didn't work out for you this time. The list has just been revised to reflect all the changes, so if you'd like to know where you stand for next year (most likely around this same time, Spring 2006), please drop us an email or phone call, and we'll give you your list position. New additions to the list are also welcome; again, please see the puppy page for details.

Addendum, 3/28: One thing that was very evident this time, due to refusals, postponements, and even a cancellation, was that everyone who is high on the list does not always say yes to their puppy, and some who are low on the list do end up with a dog. The lesson is not to give up hope even if you're way down at the bottom. If you really want a BEB puppy, let a couple of weeks pass after the whelping date before you make any other plans. Until we get the deposits in hand, anything can happen.

SUNDAY MARCH 20 2005

Spring 2005 litter at 2 days old

WITH SIX YOU GET GREEN BEER: Sure an' begorrah, Blanche whelped six pups, 3 females and 3 males, on St. Patrick's Day morning, March 17th. The weights were good (some big pups here), everyone was hungry, and our first-time mom did a fine job. We're starting our list calls this evening, to get the pups promised ASAP. Click the image at left to see an enlargement, or load the new slideshow (#5) on our Flash Gallery page, to see some more photos of all 6 plus individual closeups too. And yes, they're all getting Irish nicknames. Céad Míle Fáilte!
